Loved watching these planes as a kid in Okinawa, Naha NAF, 1960's, we lived right across the HWY from the hangers. They were my favorite acrft back then.

Nacelle is Ku-band antenna for in-flight internet access via cabin wifi. Just used it on a PHL-DEN r/t and works well.

A tired old tanker.......if it weren't for forest fires, Neptune would be not be in business. If it were not for the military, companies like Neptune would not be in business because they would not have airplanes to fly.
I flew for Neptune for 5 years, seasonal pilot. Those P2's are maintenance hogs. On average they have 30,000+ plus hours, and the R 3350's are hard to find parts for.

Nice photo!

Neptune Air Service........I used to fly for them, then went to Aero Union and flew P-3's until the Forest Service shut them down.

Curious what the nacelle on top is for. Not a universal feature of 737s.

I saw a similar older version helicopter to this CH-54, pick up my shot down under fire Huey UH-1D gunship in I Corp South Vietnam in February 1968. We needed to provide small arms cover until it finished and we all was able to return to are base at Camp Evans

Make that "Truculent Turtle". The P2V-5F had R-3350-32W engines rated at 3500 HP... Augmented by two J34 jets rated at 3250 lbs of thrust. They both used a common fuel system which was 115/145 Avgas. An explosive combination...

This is really quite a lovely shot, and it's somewhat the discordancy at work here, this massive machine transposed over to the most sylvan and bucolic scene. It's wonderful juxtaposition. Gorgeous shot!
